Eligible fish
- Caught on Lake Kabetogama during the trip.
- Only walleye and northern pike count.
- Caught legally by rod/reel, following Minnesota DNR rules.
Walleye slot rule
- Any walleye in the protected slot must be released immediately.
- A slot walleye only counts with photo verification.
- Photo must clearly show the full fish on a ruler / bump board with length visible.
- Best practice: include the angler, the fish, and the board in the same photo.
Measuring
- Measure from the closed mouth / nose to the pinched tail.
- Longest fish wins.
- If there's any question, round down to the nearest ¼ inch.
Verification
- Send a photo to the group text ASAP for any entered fish.
- Kept fish: group can verify in person.
- Released fish: the photo is the official proof.
Tie-breaker
- Same length? First fish caught wins.
- Time unclear? Tied anglers split that prize.
Contest window
- Start: Once we're on the water Thursday, May 14.
- End: Agreed cutoff Saturday night or Sunday morning before leaving.
- Winners paid after all entries are reviewed.
Fish responsibly
Catch-and-release on slot walleye is non-negotiable — handle the fish wet, keep them in the water as much as possible, and let big spawners go. The contest is for fun; don't blow up a fishery for a $50 pot.
