Eligible fish

  • Caught on Lake Kabetogama during the trip.
  • Only walleye and northern pike count.
  • Caught legally by rod/reel, following Minnesota DNR rules.

Walleye slot rule

  • Any walleye in the protected slot must be released immediately.
  • A slot walleye only counts with photo verification.
  • Photo must clearly show the full fish on a ruler / bump board with length visible.
  • Best practice: include the angler, the fish, and the board in the same photo.

Measuring

  • Measure from the closed mouth / nose to the pinched tail.
  • Longest fish wins.
  • If there's any question, round down to the nearest ¼ inch.

Verification

  • Send a photo to the group text ASAP for any entered fish.
  • Kept fish: group can verify in person.
  • Released fish: the photo is the official proof.

Tie-breaker

  • Same length? First fish caught wins.
  • Time unclear? Tied anglers split that prize.

Contest window

  • Start: Once we're on the water Thursday, May 14.
  • End: Agreed cutoff Saturday night or Sunday morning before leaving.
  • Winners paid after all entries are reviewed.

Fish responsibly

Catch-and-release on slot walleye is non-negotiable — handle the fish wet, keep them in the water as much as possible, and let big spawners go. The contest is for fun; don't blow up a fishery for a $50 pot.
